Just remember that Elise Stefanik brought this legislation after her former National Security Advisor, Joe Bartlett, left his government job in order to become the Director of Federal Policy at Skydio.
She also proposed the “Drones for First Responders Act” which would allow Skydio overcharge for their inferior products. (People buying Chinese drones would be taxed at astronomical rates, and that money would go to subsidize the high cost of Skydio products.)
So all of this is just a big money grab. Nothing is being done about the massive amount of Chinese technologies found in our homes. Audio capture would be far more of a National Security risk than a simple drone providing the same info China could get from Google Maps.
Drones are a $50B business, and yet they “fly under the radar” of the average American. People don’t care much about drones and a lot of people hate them. This is an amazing opportunity for Skydio to steal this market from DJI through legislation. It will make Elise Stefanik and Joe Bartlett very, very rich in the process.
TLDR: Elise Stefanik is a piece of shit.
