Turns out it can. As a new Mapping the World’s Prices report from Deutsche Bank points out, the sense of cheapness is very real. Renting an apartment in Tokyo will cost you only 25% of the same in New York. Buying one will cost half the price of one in London (though with UK apartment prices in free-fall, that ratio may not hold for long).
