在有记录的历史上，只有一次飓风在加利福尼亚登陆，它于1858年10月袭击了圣地亚哥，估计处于1 级强度。 1939年9月，一场刚刚从飓风减弱为热带风暴的风暴在长滩附近登陆。
另外两个系统在墨西哥首次登陆，但在抵达加州时仍处于热带风暴强度：1976年9月的 Kathleen，穿过 Salton 海以南进入美国；1997年9月，Nora 越过墨西哥，加州和亚利桑那州都相遇了。
